Once students are enrolled in MEDI7200 Developing Skills in Medicine, students will then need to preference a timetable pathway within their Learning Community.

Students will preference for a timetable pathway for the introductory week, and the first 16 weeks, which will determine their timetable for the entire academic year.

Greater Brisbane

All students will attend the St Lucia campus on Mondays. Additional classes will also be scheduled on the St Lucia campus on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, but this will vary throughout the first 16 weeks. Clinical units will have both Clinical Scenario Based Learning (CSBL) classes, and Clinical and Professional Learning (CaPL) classes scheduled across the week from Tuesday to Friday. This will also mean some students may travel between the St Lucia campus and their clinical unit on these days. Note that CSBL classes will be scheduled as CBL classes in your timetable.

Not all clinical units have the facilities to deliver the procedural skills workshops, and some ACEM masterclasses. This will result in some students attending classes at the Royal Brisbane clinical unit or the PA Southside clinical unit or Mater clinical unit. All students will attend a 3 week Pathology practical class at the IPLC located at the Royal Brisbane clinical unit.

GP Placement, Outpatient care and Collaborative Care placements are split over the year. If a student undertakes GP Placement in the first 16 weeks of the year, then for the second half of the year they will undertake Outpatient care and Collaborative Care placements. This will be dependent on what CSBL group students are allocated.

Not every class will be scheduled in the timetable pathways or at the commencement of week 1. Some classes will begin to be scheduled in the timetable from January 3rd 2025 and throughout the first 16 weeks. These classes will be scheduled into the timetable where there is space between already scheduled teaching activities. The types of classes that will be added later are procedural skills workshops (PSW), practical masterclasses, CaPL, Bedside Clinical Coaching, and Outpatients/Collaborative Care Placements.

Regional Medical Pathway

Students will attend their rural clinical unit for most classes, with some practical classes being delivered from Central Queensland University.

For Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Toowoomba students, classes will be spread across the week with Tuesday being a placement day for all students. Many of the classes on Mondays will be zoomed online from Brisbane, however some will be interactive zoom sessions which require classroom attendance. The Wednesday to Friday classes will predominantly be face-to-face classes at the clinical site or the Central Queensland University site.

If a student undertakes GP Placement in the first 16 weeks of the year, then for the second half of the year they will undertake Outpatient care and Collaborative Care placements. Timetable pathways

Timetable Pathways have been built around CSBL groups. CSBL groups have been assigned to Learning Communities (LC) and then divided up between the LC Clinical Units. To search for timetable pathways, please click on your learning community below and then search through the timetable pathways assigned to the learning community. Timetable pathway 1 is described as 1 in the tab under Central learning community and this is represented as CBL 01 in the timetable preference system.

Please note, this is an indicative timetable, and your classes may vary once your timetable is released.

The University has provided detailed information and a video about My Timetable on my.UQ – Enrolment and class allocation

Timetable preferencing

Year 2 medical students will only be required to submit a preference for CBL classes in MEDI7200. You should rank order your preferred timetable pathway. Your preferences can be changed at any point during the 4-day preferencing period. Students will only be able to preference timetable pathways (CSBL groups) that are assigned to their specific learning community.

Once assigned to a timetable pathway, all other classes will be allocated to your timetable after the swap period.

Please note, the My Timetable Planner tool cannot assist MD students with planning for their timetable. The above, Year 2 Timetable Pathway links, will provide you with all the information required to preference your timetable pathway.

Timetable allocations

The timetabling system will allocate you to your highest possible preference. It may not be possible for all students to receive their first preference. If you do not submit a preference, the timetabling system will allocate you to a timetable pathway, within your Learning Community, which has space available.

Timetable swap

Once CSBL allocations are released to students there will be a period where students can request a timetable swap. The swap period will open on Midday, Thursday 5 December 2024, and close on Midday, Monday 9 December 2025.

During this time, you can allocate yourself into another timetable pathway, within your Learning Community, if there is space in the timetable pathway you would like. To do this, log into your MyTimetable and select CBL1. Timetable pathways which have space available will have the “Allocate” button next to the group numbers. Allocating to a new timetable pathway means you will forfeit your spot in your original group.

If the timetable pathway you want does not have space available, you can select the heart next to group number. This heart will place you on the swap waitlist for this group and if another student wants to swap into your group number, then the swap will be processed. However, if a place becomes available in the group number you have hearted, you will not automatically be placed in the group as the waitlist only processes swaps. As the swap hearted function is not a guarantee of receiving a swap, we encourage you to keep checking your timetable during the swap process to see if space becomes available in your desired group.

You will not be able to re-allocate yourself after the swap period closes.

Travel

Travel time between the St Lucia Campus and the below four clinical units is accounted for when constructing the timetable pathways.  The travel time is as follows:

  • 30 minutes for the PA-Southside and Mater Clinical Units
  • 60 minutes for the Royal Brisbane Clinical Unit and Greenslopes Clinical Unit
  • 90 Minutes for QEII Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital Clinical Unit

The Brisbane City Council bus service (Route 66) frequently travels between the “UQ Lakes Station” and “RBWH Station”, stopping at three of the hospitals sites where your Clinical Unit is located. For Greenslopes the 169 bus service travels between “UQ Lakes Station” and “Greenslopes Station”.
