Once students are enrolled in MEDI7200 Developing Skills in Medicine, students will then need to preference a timetable pathway from their Learning Community.

Students will preference for a timetable pathway for the first 16 weeks which will determine their timetable for the entire academic year.

Metro

All students will attend the St Lucia campus on Monday. Additional classes will also be scheduled on the St Lucia campus on Wednesday and Friday.Tuesday and Thursday are clinical unit days, but not limited to these two days. No classes will be scheduled at St Lucia campus on Tuesday or Thursday. The clinical units will have Case Based Learning (CBL) and Clinical and Professional Learning (CaPL) classes scheduled across the week from Tuesday to Friday. This will also mean some students may travel between the St Lucia campus and their clinical unit on Wednesday and or Friday.

Not all clinical units have facilities to deliver all the classes, procedural skills workshops, and some masterclasses. This will result in some students attending classes at the Royal Brisbane clinical unit or the PA Southside clinical unit. All students will attend a 3 week Pathology practical class at the IPLC located at the Royal Brisbane clinical unit.

GP Placement or Outpatients/OPD Clinic and Health Professional Clinical Shadowing placements are split over the year. If a student undertakes GP Placement in the first 16 weeks of the year, then the second half of the year they will undertake  Outpatients/OPD Clinic and Health Professional Clinical Shadowing. This will be dependent on what CBL group students are allocated.

Not every class will be scheduled in the timetable pathways or at the commencement of week 1. These classes will begin to be scheduled in the timetable from January 2nd 2024 and throughout the first 16 weeks. These classes will be scheduled into the timetable where there is space between already scheduled teaching activities. The types of classes that will be added later are procedural skills workshops (PSW), practical masterclasses, CaPL bedside clinical coaching, Outpatients/OPD clinic, and health professional clinical shadowing.

Timetable pathways

Timetable Pathways have been built around CBL groups. The CBL groups have been assigned to Learning Communities (LC) and then divided up between the LC Clinical Units. To search for timetable pathways, please click on your learning community below and then search through the timetable pathways assigned to the learning community. Timetable pathway 1 is described as 1 in the tab under Central learning community and this is represented as CBL 01 in the timetable preference system.

Please note, this is an indicative timetable, and your classes may vary once your timetable is released.

The University has provided detailed information and a video about My Timetable on my.UQ – Enrolment and class allocation.

Timetable preferencing

Year 2 medical students will only be required to submit a preference for course MEDI7200, class CBL. You should rank order your preferred timetable pathway. Your preferences can be changed at any point during the 4-day preferencing period.

Once assigned to a timetable pathway, all other classes will be allocated to your timetable.

Please note, the My Timetable Planner tool cannot assist MD students with planning for their timetable. The above, Year 2 Timetable Pathways, will provide you with all the information required to preference your timetable pathway.

Students will only be able to preference timetable pathways (CBL groups) that are assigned to the learning community students are allocated to.

Timetable allocations

The timetabling system will allocate you to your highest possible preference. It may not be possible for all students to receive their first preference. If you do not submit a preference, the timetabling system will allocate you to a timetable pathway from your Learning Community which has space available.

Timetable Swap

From when the timetable is released to students there will be a period where students can submit a timetable swap request. During this time, if there is space in the timetable pathway you would like to be allocated to, the Faculty of Medicine Timetable Team will be able to process the swap request. Students will need to contact the Timetable Team via email at med.mytimetable@uq.edu.au. Any swaps received after this deadline will be referred to the course coordinator for approval. Swaps after the deadline may not be approved.

Travel

Travel time between the St Lucia Campus and the below four clinical units is accounted for when constructing the timetable pathways.  The travel time is as follows:

  • 30 minutes for the PA-Southside and Mater Clinical Units
  • 60 minutes for the Royal Brisbane Clinical Unit and Greenslopes Clinical Unit

The Brisbane City Council bus service (Route 66) frequently travels between the “UQ Lakes Station” and “RBWH Station”, stopping at three of the hospitals sites where your Clinical Unit is located. For Greenslopes the 169 bus service travels between “UQ Lakes Station” and “Greenslopes Station”. Any travel between St Lucia and either QEII Clinical Unit or The Prince Charles Hospital Clinical Unit, a minimum of 90 minutes travel will be allowed.
