The information listed below is specific to clinical placements at Ochsner.
9. Online Modules
In preparation for beginning clinical placements at Ochsner, students are required to complete online learning modules which have been developed to assist in this phase of medical education. We have implemented this process electronically for you to complete these requirements at your own pace and convenience.
- Ochsner Workday Learning (OWL) Modules
- This curriculum is designed to provide an overview of Ochsner-specific policies, procedures and guidelines as they apply to students and employees at Ochsner Health.
- Epic Modules – Medical Student Training
- Epic is the Electronic Medical Record System used throughout Ochsner Health. Medical students must complete the Medical Student Training Modules in order to access Epic.
These modules can be accessed via the Ochsner Workday Learning Network (OWL). Please allow yourself adequate time to complete these modules as it will take several hours, but you may do it at your own pace and convenience. It does not have to be completed in one sitting. All modules must be completed prior to arrival at Ochsner. (Disregard specific deadlines listed in OWL.)
Students are required to complete the learning modules prior to the beginning of your clinical placement. This is in compliance with Joint Commission and Regulatory standards. If these modules have not been completed, you will NOT be allowed to begin your clinical rotation and therefore will be counted against your attendance.
NOTE: Students may experience difficulties accessing some of the websites needed to complete orientation requirements, while in Australia or outside of the U.S. For many complex reasons, some sites are not always accessible everywhere in Australia. The sites are definitely accessible on campus at St. Lucia and Herston, and anywhere in the CBD of Brisbane. Please also try using different internet browsers.
