Onshore Student Placements at Ochsner
Information for Onshore Domestic & International Students
Onshore Domestic and International Students who are not part of the UQ-Ochsner MD program have the opportunity to apply for clinical immersions in Year 4 for the Clinical Extension and Elective terms. Placements are subject to availability. Please refer to UQ Learning Community Immersions for additional details.
The information listed below is specific to clinical placements at Ochsner.
6. Pre-Placement Health Screening Requirements
As part of Ochsner Health policy, all students scheduled for placements at the Ochsner Clinical School must complete a pre-start health check through Ochsner Employee Health before beginning their rotation. This appointment will be provided at no expense to you. Below are the necessary steps to complete this process:
Steps for Scheduling Your Health Screening:
- Create a MyOchsner Account:
- Click the provided link to create your account: MyOchsner
- Notify Employee Health:
- Email ephysicalelmwood@ochsner.org or call 504-842-4748 (option 3).
- Identify yourself as a University of Queensland medical student and confirm that your MyOchsner account has been set up.
- Scheduling Your Appointment:
- The MyOchsner system only allows scheduling within a two-week time frame.
- Contact Employee Health immediately after setting up your account so they can schedule your appointment for you.
- Complete Health Questionnaires:
- This must be done at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment.
- Arrival and Clearance Requirements:
- You must arrive in New Orleans in time to complete your health screening appointment by the Monday of your scheduled rotation.
- Your health screening must be completed before your scheduled rotation.
Troubleshooting MyOchsner Login Issues:
- If you forget your username or password:
- Click “Forgot Username?” or “Forgot Password?” on the login screen.
- Follow the prompts and complete the two-step verification process.
- For further assistance, call the MyOchsner Patient Support line at 1-877-339-2637.
- If you do not receive an activation email:
- Check your spam folder for an email from donotreply@ohnmychart.org
What to Expect at Your Health Screening Appointment:
- Mask Fitting:
- Men must be clean-shaven.
- Bring a valid photo ID.
- No gum or food for 15 minutes before your appointment; only water is permitted.
- Urine Drug Screen (Non-DOT 789 Panel):
- The test must be negative for the following substances:
- Amphetamines/methamphetamine, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Cocaine, Creatinine, Extended Opiates, Hydrocodone, Marijuana, Methadone, MDMA (Ecstasy), Phencyclidine, and Propoxyphene.
- If a positive result is found, students must provide valid proof of legal prescription (e.g., a prescription copy or medical documentation from a physician). Failure to provide documentation may delay the start of the placement.
- TB Testing:
- QuantiFERON Gold blood test.
Health Check Appointment Location:
- Ochsner Employee Health at 3530 Houma Boulevard, Metairie, LA 70006.
- Alternative Ochsner Employee Health locations may be used as needed.
