The UQ Research Program provides UQ students with an opportunity to gain research experience working alongside some of the university’s leading academics and researchers.

Participation is open to undergraduate students, including honours, who have completed at least one year of study at the time of application and Masters by coursework students. 

Doctor of Medicine students are not eligible to apply for Summer or Winter Resarch projects due to semester timetable clashes. For information about other research opportunities for MD students, please view more information about curricular and extracurricular research.

Program details

Applications for the Winter Research Program 2026 will open on Monday 23 March 2026 and close at 11:59pm Sunday 12 April 2026.

Research projects are available for 4 weeks from the 29 June 2026 until the 24 July 2026.  

All successful scholars will receive a $2,000 scholarship.

Project proposals for Medical School are due Friday 13 February 2026.

Student eligibility

To qualify you must be enrolled at UQ at the time of application and maintain ongoing enrolment in a program at UQ for the entirety of the research program.

UQ Student Enrichment and Success (SES) is running two Info Sessions in March that will provide a comprehensive overview of the application process, program details, and key deadlines.
