UQ-Ochsner Orientation and Onboarding

This section contains complete details for UQ-Ochsner students transitioning to Year 3 at the UQ-Ochsner Health Campus. 

NOTE: Students may experience difficulties accessing some of the websites needed to complete orientation and onboarding requirements, while still in Australia or outside the U.S. For many complex reasons, some sites are not always accessible everywhere in Australia. The sites are accessible on campus at St. Lucia and Herston, and anywhere in the CBD of Brisbane. Please also try using different internet browsers.

5. Student health screenings and onboarding

As part of Ochsner Health policy, all UQ-Ochsner students entering Year 3 must undergo health screenings during onboarding, before beginning any clinical placement. Students will be randomly assigned for health screenings on Wednesday 7 January, or Thursday, 8 January 2026. Health screening appointments will be sent to both students' UQ and Ochsner email accounts.

Appointments cannot be changed. Health screening appointments are scheduled at the UQ-Ochsner Health campus on the first floor of the Academic Center in Classrooms 1 and 2.

The following tests will be conducted:

  • TB Test (QuantiFERON Gold)
  • Drug Screen (Non-DOT 789 Panel)
  • Flu Shot - US variant, not AUS variant - or declination form
  • DTap (Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) - if needed
  • Titers for (MMR, Varicella, Hep B)
  • Mask Fitting - NO food, gum, or soft drinks 15 minutes prior to appointment. (Men must be “clean shaven” – this means no stubble or beard - and should have the closest shave possible to ensure proper seal and compliance.)
  • Color Vision

MyOchsner Portal

Create a MyOchsner Account

Students are required to create their secure MyOchsner account by clicking “Sign Up” no later than Friday, 12 December 2025.

Upload Health Documentation

After your account is created, upload the following directly to MyOchsner:

  • Proof of U.S. flu vaccination or declination form
  • Immunization records

Complete Health Surveys and ePre-Check

Ochsner Employee Health will assign required health surveys and ePre-Check tasks. These must be completed by Friday, 2 January 2026. 

  • Note: The health survey will become visible in your MyOchsner account seven (7) days prior to your scheduled health screening.  

Onboarding Activities

Ochsner Student Administration will guide students through several key onboarding activities. While the sequence may vary, punctuality is expected as a professional courtesy. The following components are included:

  • Scrub class:
    • Students will be scheduled for appointments with Ochsner nursing staff. Please arrive on time, as appointment details will be communicated alongside health screening schedules.
  • Photography head shots
    • Professional business attire is required for photography. These headshots will be used for official purposes. All male students must wear collared shirts and neckties. Please plan accordingly.
  • White coat distribution & locker assignments, etc.
    • Students will receive their white coats and be assigned lockers during this phase of onboarding.
