Orientation
UQ-Ochsner Orientation and Onboarding
This section contains complete details for UQ-Ochsner students transitioning to Year 3 at the UQ-Ochsner Health Campus.
NOTE: Students may experience difficulties accessing some of the websites needed to complete orientation and onboarding requirements, while still in Australia or outside the U.S. For many complex reasons, some sites are not always accessible everywhere in Australia. The sites are accessible on campus at St. Lucia and Herston, and anywhere in the CBD of Brisbane. Please also try using different internet browsers.
3. Health insurance information
All UQ-Ochsner students are required to maintain active health insurance coverage while completing their clinical training at Ochsner Health. The UQ Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) provided during Years 1 and 2 in Brisbane, only covers students while in Australia, and does not cover students in the United States.
Students must obtain health insurance coverage that meets their individual needs and provide proof of coverage before beginning clinical placements. Students who do not provide proof of health insurance will not be eligible to commence clinical placements.
Students are encouraged to explore available coverage options well in advance of their arrival in New Orleans. Information about available plans can be found through the Health Insurance Marketplace. The marketplace opens on November 1st of each year. Additional guidance from current students is available in the OMSA NOLA Guide.
Submitting Proof of Health Insurance
Proof of health insurance must be uploaded to Placements by Thursday, 7 January 2027.
To submit your documentation:
Placements → My Details → MED-Ochsner Important Information → Proof of Health Insurance
- When uploading your documentation, please ensure that both sides of your insurance card are included.
- If your health insurance coverage changes at any time, you must upload updated documentation through Placements as soon as possible.
Important: Failure to maintain and provide proof of health insurance coverage may delay or prevent participation in required clinical placements.
