UQ-Ochsner Orientation and Onboarding

This section contains complete details for UQ-Ochsner students transitioning to Year 3 at the UQ-Ochsner Health Campus.

NOTE: Students may experience difficulties accessing some of the websites needed to complete orientation and onboarding requirements, while still in Australia or outside the U.S. For many complex reasons, some sites are not always accessible everywhere in Australia. The sites are accessible on campus at St. Lucia and Herston, and anywhere in the CBD of Brisbane. Please also try using different internet browsers.

3. Health insurance information

Ochsner Health requires all medical students to have health insurance. The UQ OSHC student insurance, provided during Years 1 and 2 in Brisbane, only covers students while in Australia, and does not cover students in their home country.

All students must enrol in medical coverage and present proof of coverage before beginning clinical placements in January 2025. Failure to do so will result in ineligibility to start placements in January 2025. Students will need to shop around for a plan that suits their needs best and use the website healthcare.gov as a guide. The marketplace opens on November 1st of each year. Students can also refer to the OMSA NOLA Guide for advice from OMSA.

To submit proof of health coverage, please upload documentation via Placements by Friday, 10 January 2025. Once logged in to Placements, navigate to My Details > MED-Ochsner Important Information > Proof of Health Insurance and upload your documentation. Please make sure the documentation includes both sides of your card. If your insurance changes at any time, you must notify Ochsner Student Administration by uploading your updated insurance information to Placements.
