Ochsner Clinical Immersions

The following information relates to students enrolled in the UQ-Ochsner MD Program. 

Swap Requests

UQ-Ochsner students will be provided with an opportunity to submit swap requests, during the appropriate swap period only.

Students may submit swap requests during the dates detailed on the appropriate allocation timeline listed under Key Allocation Dates.

• For Year 3 and Year 4 students requesting to swap Clinical Immersion Term Order, please follow the process outlined below.
• For Year 4 students requesting to swap just Clinical Extension Pathway, please submit an application using this link. On the form, for Swap Request Type, select "Clinical Extension Pathway" from the drop down menu.

Swap requests for Clinical Immersion Term Order will be facilitated where there is a match between two students or available capacity. Students are not responsible for finding, nor will they be permitted to request, a “swap partner.” All applications for swaps will be accommodated where possible, however, are subject to operational requirements. The Medical School cannot guarantee fulfilment of swap requests.

• Requests will be handled in the order received. 
• Swap requests must be submitted by the swap period deadline as detailed on the appropriate allocation timeline listed under Key Allocation Dates.
• Students wishing to request swaps under the above conditions must submit the swap request to med.ocsStudentAdmin@uq.edu.au.
• Students must use their official UQ (or Ochsner) student email. Requests sent using personal email accounts will not be considered.
• Once a swap request has been approved and processed it will be considered finalised.

Placement Change Requests

The following information relates to students enrolled in Year 4 of the UQ-Ochsner MD Program.

Students may apply for a placement reallocation during Year 4 at Ochsner after they have been allocated to a confirmed placement. Reallocation requests are limited to the following:

• Term order within the Immersion group
• Sub-specialty order within the Critical Care Plus Immersion
• Specialty selection within the Elective Immersion

Change requests must be done in accordance with the UQ-Ochsner Year 4, 2026 Placement Deadlines. Requests will not be considered outside the published guidelines. Due to the logistical and operational complexities involving multiple departments and, in many cases, coordination across two continents, no exceptions will be granted to these deadlines.

• Requests will be handled in the order received. 
• Once a request has been approved and processed it will be considered finalised.
• Students wishing to apply for allocation changes under the above conditions must submit the details to med.ocsStudentAdmin@uq.edu.au.
