The UQ MD Learning Communities are clusters of health care providers including hospital and community-based services, general practices, and other community providers. Importantly, these Learning Communities comprise the students and staff based in the facilities and provide a platform where they can flourish in a mutually supportive environment, where relationships and connections are forged, and students nurtured.

Learning Communities provide a small cohort experience within large cohort experience, which supports improved connection and engagement. The longitudinal relationships inherent in the Learning Communities model are integral to effective teaching and learning, support progress toward attainment of the graduate attributes and promote excellence in clinical practice and scholarly endeavours.

6. Late special consideration applications

6.1 This section is applicable to the Learning Community Allocations for GBCS (see section 3.1) and UQ-Ochsner students – Year 2 (see section 3.2) and the re-preferencing process (see section 4.6).

6.2 In exceptional circumstances, you may apply for late special consideration after the application closing date and before the commencement of the academic year.

6.3 Late special consideration applications must meet one or more of the categories outlined in paragraph 6.2 and demonstrate, with supporting documentation, that:

  • Circumstances existed that made it not possible to apply for special consideration during the designated application period; or
  • There has been a significant and unexpected change to your personal circumstances that would warrant special consideration, after the closing date.

6.4 A lack of knowledge or awareness of the process to apply for special consideration and the associated timelines is not considered a circumstance beyond your control and does not meet the criteria for late special consideration.

6.5 The eligibility of late applications will be considered in accordance with requirements outlined in the Student Grievance Resolution procedure.

6.6 Eligible applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis and based on the information supplied. Whilst an application may be accepted late and meet the criteria for special consideration, the Medical School cannot guarantee that a place will be available.

6.7 Eligible applications will be considered by a panel comprising:

  • Dean, Medical School (or nominee)
  • Director, Rural Clinical School; and
  • Director, Greater Brisbane Clinical School.

7.8 The panel will provide a recommendation for a final decision which is at the discretion of the Dean, Medical School.
