The PA-Southside Clinical Unit falls within the Metro South Health area, the major provider of public health services in the Brisbane south side, Logan, Redlands and Scenic Rim regions. Metro South Health provides specialist heath care to a population of more than 1 million people or almost one-quarter of Queensland's population.   

Headed by Associate Professor Leo Nunnink, the PA-Southside Clinical Unit helps train about 200 students from across years three and four of the medical program every year.   

PA-Southside Clinical Unit is highly integrated with three Queensland Health hospitals:  

Princess Alexandra (PAH) Hospital  

Princess Alexandra (PAH) Hospital is one of three tertiary level hospitals in Queensland, providing care in most major adult specialties. The PA is nationally recognised for expertise in trauma management and organ transplants and is one of Australia's leading academic and research health centres.  

Located 2 km south-east of the Brisbane CBD, the campus is also home to the Translational Research Institute - a unique Australian-first initiative of ‘bench to bedside’ medical research.   

Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Hospital  

Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Hospital is a medium metropolitan adult facility providing a range of inpatient and outpatient services and a 24-hour emergency department. The hospital's endoscopy unit is Australia’s most advanced diagnostic facilities and has the capacity to see more than 5,000 patients a year.  

The hospital is situated in Coopers Plains – a suburb located 11 km south-west of the CBD.   

Redland Hospital  

Redland Hospital is the major health centre for Redland City and Brisbane’s southern bayside suburbs. The hospital provides care in a number of specialties including general medicine and surgery, cardiology, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, renal dialysis and paediatrics.  

The hospital is situated in Cleveland - a suburb of Redland City located on the western shores of Moreton Bay approximately 25 km east-south-east of Brisbane.
