Children's Health Queensland

The Children’s Health Queensland Clinical Unit is located at Australia’s largest and most advanced paediatric facility - the Queensland Children’s Hospital. Located in South Brisbane, the 359-bed hospital features more than 80,000 square meters of facilities spread across 12 levels.

The hospital is built on more than 200 years of excellence in paediatric care combining the exceptional staff and services from the former Royal Children’s Hospital and Mater Children’s Hospital.

As Queensland’s single specialist paediatric facility, Children’s Health Queensland (CHQ) at the Queensland Children’s Hospital is the hub of a dedicated network of paediatric services available at other Brisbane and Queensland hospitals.

Expanding on CHQ’s state-wide remit, the Queensland Children’s Hospital also supports regional hospitals through telemedicine and outreach services. This means children and young people can access the services they need as close to home as possible.

Headed by Associate Professor Louise Conwell, the Children’s Health Queensland Clinical Unit is located at South Brisbane, just across the river from the Brisbane CBD.

Children's Health Queensland

Research and education at Children’s Health Queensland is vital in ensuring the best possible health outcomes for children and young people are met now and in the future.
Each year Children’s Health Queensland provides approximately 40,000 episodes of care, including care in many specialist areas. Many of these have active multidisciplinary research programmes.
At Children’s Health Queensland we are training the next generation of paediatric clinicians and health care specialists.
Through grants, partnerships, government funding and the Children’s Hospital Foundation we are able to invest in research to help find the answers to a range of child and adolescent health issues.

Centre for Childrens' Health Research (CCHR)

The $134 million Centre for Children’s Health Research (CCHR) which opened in November 2015, is Queensland’s first fully-integrated research facility focused on child and adolescent health research.
The Centre for Children’s Health Research is a partnership between Queensland Health (through Children’s Health Queensland), the Queensland University of Technology and The University of Queensland.
It is an integrated hub of specialist knowledge dedicated to improving the health of children, and facilitating best opportunities for collaborative research projects. The Translational Research Institute is also co-located at the Centre for Children’s Health Research.
The nine-level centre houses wet and dry laboratories, pathology services, a gait laboratory, a nutrition laboratory and the Queensland Children’s Tumour Bank, funded by the Children’s Hospital Foundation, which provides a tissue repository for national and international cancer research. The Centre also houses the Queensland Children’s Motion Analysis Service and the Children’s Nutrition Research Centre.
