The Mater Clinical Unit is based within Mater Hospital and Health Services in South Brisbane. The Mater Health Services is a network of seven hospitals with more than 8,000 staff, caring for more than 600,000 patients each year.  

Mater Health Services also has health centres, a world-class medical research institute and pathology and pharmacy businesses. Mater offers secondary and tertiary level services across a wide spectrum of ages and for a wide variety of medical and surgical disorders. Women's Health is very well represented at the Mater site. High level specialist services are also provided for adult patients, particularly in the areas of transitional care for chronic disease and oncology.  

Headed by Professor Paul Griffin, the Mater Clinical Unit helps train almost 150 students from across four years of the medical program every year. The Mater Clinical Unit is situated in the Mater Hospitals precinct at South Brisbane and is close to major rail and bus stations.  

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Mater Health still require students to have 2 documented doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine. Students who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 are unable to attend placement at Mater Health (nor can they be allocated to the West Learning Community).
