About Texas
Texas is located on the banks above Dumaresq River. It is a very small community serving the surrounding grazing area. Like so many of Queensland’s rural settlements it spreads and has lots of vacant land within the boundaries of the town. Farming of sheep and cattle is the dominant industry today, with fodder, cotton and horticultural crops adding to the mix. Texas is also home to the largest cattle feedlot in Australia and a silver mine situated in the historic Silver Spur mining area.
Close-by attractions include;
- Beacon Lookout
- Glenlyon Dam
- Sundown National Park
- Play a round of golf on one of Queensland best “sand green” courses
- Texas Country Music Festival - September
- Texas Cup - December

Testimonials
My preceptor was honestly amazing to work with. This was the first rotation that I’ve had where I’ve really felt like I was trusted and valued as a team member rather than a hindrance. My confidence in a clinical setting has skyrocketed since working with him. The town was lovely and welcoming, and I had a great time getting to know all the residents. I’d honestly highly recommend the placement to anyone because I’ve learned so much.
I had the fantastic opportunity to work at fullest of my current abilities with supervision from my preceptor, who was amazing at allowing me to excel independently, while still being there as a supervisor and educator.
The preceptor is a fantastic teacher who is patient and considerate. It was a great opportunity to learn from a practitioner with such experience and expertise.
