About Kingaroy

Kingaroy has always been a rich agricultural area and is probably best known as Australia’s peanut and navy bean capital. But since the early 1990s it has also become home to a vigorous wine industry which is already the largest in the State in terms of production. Kingaroy’s population is expected to double over the coming decades as a steadily growing population take advantage of the area’s great rural lifestyle, with its proximity to Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast, and rapidly expanding opportunities.

Close-by attractions include;

  • Brisbane Valley Rail Trail
  • The Peanut Van
  • Kingsley Grove Estate Annual Grape Stomp - February
  • Kingaroy Baconfest - August
  • Bunya Mountains

Tips from previous students

  • Staff were eager and keen to allow us to assist on most procedures and even take the lead on some
  • I enjoyed being able to get to know the Griffith students through the friendly coordinator and being included in their learning opportunities.
  • Go to markets
  • Head to the local bar/pub - meet surprising number of people you actually know; good to get to know people outside of context of medical school
  • Try the local eateries and cafes - stunning variety of food.

Testimonials

South Burnett Medical Centre is a fantastic practice, and the doctors are both fantastic preceptors. I feel as though I learned a lot from them.

All of the staff were very friendly and keen to teach. All of the doctors were keen teachers who would often sit down and discuss with us various topics in medicine. We felt like an important part of the team whilst there and would greatly recommend this placement to other students keen on GP. We were often the first person to see any acute walk-ins to the surgery and were tasked with taking a history, and observations/brief exam and presenting them to the first available Dr. All Dr's were happy to have us sit in on consults and occasionally for a new or simple presentation asking some questions.
