Robert Ellis is currently an MD and PhD candidate at the University of Queensland. He is currently involved with both clinical and preclinical research with the Kidney Disease Research Group (UQ Diamantina Institute, Translational Research Institute), the Department of Urology (Princess Alexandra Hospital), and QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute.

His PhD thesis is focused on characterising factors involved in the development of postoperative chronic kidney disease in patients who have undergone nephrectomy for kidney cancer. Aims include the characterisation of disease burden, the development and validation prognostic clinical models, and the identification of potentially-modifiable factors which could be targets of interventions to improve patient care. He is the lead investigator for a number of prospective and retrospective clinical studies focused on achieving these aims.
