My research project investigates the efficacy and mechanism of near-infrared light as a potential disease-modifying therapy for neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, which are becoming increasingly important as advances in healthcare increase our lifespans.
I gained an appreciation of laboratory-based research during my undergraduate studies of a Bachelor of Medical Science with a Physiology Honours year. The intercalated MBBS-PhD program poses unique challenges, however I hope that the UQ Clinician Scientist Track will lead to further opportunities for involvement in laboratory-based research in the future.
