Nominations are now open for the inaugural 2024 Medical School Research Excellence Awards. These awards aim to not only recognise the recipients but also to celebrate and highlight the outstanding research achievements of your colleagues.

- Awards announced: 11 November 2024 at the Medical School Research Showcase, TRI Auditorium, Woolloongabba (Register here for the Showcase)
Award categories
- Research Partnership and Impact Award: Recognising outstanding individuals or teams that have made a demonstrable impact on the health of communities and acknowledges the leadership, partnership and excellence of multidisciplinary research. The winner of the award will give a plenary talk at the Medical School Research Showcase and receive a prize of $10,000.
- Higher Degree Research Student Excellence Award: Recognising researchers who have made an exceptional contribution through their research, and translation of research into practice and/or policy into improved health care or education practice. In two categories: Clinical and Non-clinical. Prizes of $1,000 for each category will be awarded.
Depending on the quality of the nominations, up to two award winners may be selected for the HDR student categories. Subject to the quality of the nominations for a category, an award may not be made.
Nominations
Award selection is based primarily on written statements addressing the selection criteria. Nominations must clearly outline how the person or team has demonstrated:
- Significant and outstanding achievement.
- A meaningful and lasting impact.
Eligibility
All Medical School research staff and Medical School HDR students active in their program are eligible to be nominated.
This includes academic staff who are continuing and fixed-term appointees as well as conjoint, secondee and academic title holders (excluding adjunct) conducting research under the auspice of the Medical School.
Contractors are not eligible.
The research must have been conducted through the Medical School.
Higher Degree Research Student Excellence Award
- Nominees must be enrolled or studying towards a PhD or MPhil Degree within a Medical School organisational unit
- Nominee must have successfully passed Confirmation of Candidature (R1)
- Nominee must be active in their HDR program at the Medical School prior to application.
Nomination process
Self-nominations are allowed.
If you are nominating a colleague, you may choose to tell the person that you are nominating them before submitting your nomination. However, all nominees will be advised of their nominations via email once all submissions are received. When nominating a team, please advise of the team leader as the contact person.
When completing the nomination, you must incorporate the award-specific criteria applicable for each award type. Only one nominator is required.
Please keep all nominations concise and any additional support materials to a maximum of two pages.
