Bio

Jaime has worked for many years as a Lecturer and Course Coordinator for the Master of Mental Health Program, and since 2022 is the Program Coordinator. He is a Psychologist from University of Chile, with training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, and is an Endorsed Clinical Psychologist, a Board Approved Supervisor and is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society. He has many years of clinical experience providing psychotherapy in diverse setting such as private and university clinics, has worked many years in Child and Youth Mental Health Service CHQ, and privately providing psychological therapies to young people and adults with mental health issues. He developed his PhD project on resistances to psychotherapy among clients with somatic disorders. He has many years of experience teaching clinical psychology and psychoanalytic courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Chile and Australia.

Interests

He is interested in research, understanding and treatment of “psychosomatic” problems, in helping younger clinicians learn the psychotherapeutic trade, specially the challenges of treating complex presentations. He is also interested in process research, in particular the investigation of the impact of implicit common factors such as mentalisation in diverse modalities of treatment.
