Kingaroy has always been a rich agricultural area and is probably best known as Australia’s peanut and navy bean capital. But since the early 1990s it has also become home to a vigorous wine industry which is already the largest in the State in terms of production. Kingaroy’s population is expected to double over the coming decades as a steadily growing population take advantage of the area’s great rural lifestyle, with its proximity to Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast, and rapidly expanding opportunities.

- Get involved! There is so much to see and do in the hospital and the staff are extremely supportive, so it is the perfect opportunity to seek out experiences that interest you.
- Be proactive and flexible
- I enjoyed being able to get to know the Griffith students through the friendly coordinator and being included in their learning opportunities.

- Head to the local bar/pub - meet surprising number of people you actually know; good to get to know people outside of context of medical school
- Try the local eateries and cafes - stunning variety of food.

Had an absolutely wonderful time at Kingaroy Hospital. Rotating through different departments allowed me to have such a variety of experiences. I especially enjoyed my time in the emergency department where I felt a useful member of the team and got to practise my history and examination technique and achieve a number of DOPS and mini-CEXs.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at the Kingaroy hospital. It was a really great learning opportunity being in an emergency department, because (a) I hadn't been in an ED before and (2) I had a lot of independence to see patients on my own and do cannulas.
Kingaroy Hospital provided an excellent and extremely well-organised clinical experience. I very much appreciated the opportunity to experience a wide array of the services within the hospital, including the medical & surgical ward, maternity services and the emergency department. This placement was challenging in that I was given a level of independence that had not been offered at my previous placements. However, at all times I felt supported by my preceptors in coping with these challenges.
The doctors were great at getting us involved and were always happy to teach and provide opportunities. The vast majority of the nursing staff were very lovely and helped me a lot with completing my tasks and giving me opportunities to be a part of the team. I had lots of hands on time and was able to assist in surgeries, even with visiting surgeons, and independently see patients in clinic and ED.
