Moura Dawson Medical Practice strives to provide comprehensive medical care to individuals and families, keeping up-to-date with medical innovations and delivering efficient personal service. Services provided at the Practice include women’s health, preventative medicine, skin cancer checks, chronic disease management, pregnancy care and mine medicals.

Moura Community Hospital is a hybrid between an outpatient centre and a traditional rural hospital. It offers 24 hour accident and emergency, general medical and surgical services, paediatric and palliative care.

It is a 4 bed community hospital.

I loved learning under my preceptor. He is very encouraging and supportive in his teaching. Additionally, he is very eager to demonstrate procedures and supervising student attempts at said procedures. All around it was a great experience!

Overall, it was a very fulfilling experience. I got to witness a wide range of presentations and management options. I was involved with retrievals and RFDS transfers. The preceptor, locum doctor and nurses made me feel very welcomed and gave me lots of opportunities to be involved (i.e. giving me calls after-hours if there were patients presenting to the hospital.)

The preceptor is a really good doctor and teacher. He dedicated time for teaching and provided opportunity for students to learn. He did this while ensuring the priority of healthcare service to his patients. The nurse was very helpful and encouraged students to actively participate in procedural skills.

Overall, I feel as though I gained a lot of clinical skills and confidence from this placement.
