The University of Queensland (UQ) Medical School assists visiting medical students with elective placements. The school defines visiting students as those who are seeking to complete a medical elective placement at a hospital affiliated with UQ whilst enrolled in a medical program at another institution (in Queensland, interstate, or overseas).

The elective placements are only available to students who have completed at least one semester of clinical training in a recognised medical degree from another institution. The placements are electives only, and we are unable to provide summative assessments or formal teaching sessions as part of these electives, however, visiting students may be extended invitations to attend tutorials.

Electives are offered for 4 - 12 weeks in duration, and applicants may only apply for one elective in a single discipline, per calendar year.
