Tips from previous students

  • Make yourself available (write your number on the whiteboard) to the nurses and allied health staff. Some interesting procedures may only occur in after-hours.
  • Be very proactive at asking staff and patients for what you want to do (the worst someone can say is no)
  • Go in it with an adaptable mind, with fluid expectations. And try to find the courage to step up and say you want to have a go at something.
  • Getting involved in the community was brilliant - spending time at the golf club, RSL, Pub or down watching the local cricket/rugby team was unreal.
  • The Cosmos Centre and the Bilby Experience are a must. The RFDS museum is very interesting.
  • Bring swags/camping equipment! There are lots of cool places to go in the surrounding areas and it’s a really cool way to see more of the outback while you're there.

Testimonials

To say my time in Charleville was amazing would be a complete understatement. Right from the start I was welcomed with open arms, and all staff were keen to get me involved. The quality of teaching was superb, my preceptor went above and beyond with her teaching and really made me feel like part of the team from day one. Additionally, the nursing staff at CHC made our days in clinic extra memorable.

Charleville Hospital is a fantastic place to do rural placement. The staff are welcoming and supporting, there is high quality teaching, and the facilities and accommodation are excellent. The preceptors are attentive and provided me with much valuable instruction. I felt very involved at the hospital and my practical and communication skills were greatly advanced on placement there. I would recommend Charleville to all for RRM placement.

Had the most amazing time doing my EPP in Charleville. It is a town very well set up for students and there is an amazing community. Loved the hospital and the doctors were very supportive and were happy to answer all my questions. Loved seeing the continuity of care between the hospital and GP practice in a small community firsthand.
