Tips from previous students

  • If you have certain skills you'd like to work on, or dops/cops to complete, just let the doctors and the nursing staff know as they are great at finding opportunities for you to complete these.
  • Get to know all the staff including admin, nursing and doctors as if they know you are keen to learn they will give you lots of opportunities. Just becoming friends with them as well made the days at placement not feel like work at all as there was always time for a laugh or conversation between patients!
  • While Beaudesert is close enough to the southern suburbs of Brisbane, it saves a tremendous amount of time to accept the homestay option rather than travelling everyday.

Testimonials

My preceptor was excellent. He allowed me practice my skills very freely, from procedural skills to history taking as well as familiarising myself the paperwork and software I will need to actually do my job. The other staff were also fantastic and there was a sense of community amongst all of them. The clinic is also very new and very well equipped.

I really enjoyed my placement. My preceptor was very encouraging and got me involved a lot. I feel like I have become more confident and improved greatly over the past 6 weeks.

I would just like to commend the staff at Beaudesert Family practice and especially my preceptor for their teaching in this rotation. They really welcomed me into their workplace and helped my learning immensely. The doctor is an excellent preceptor who really involved me in work, explained important concepts well and answered all my questions patiently. I could not have asked for a better preceptor.

My preceptor was very welcoming and I always looked forward to going into the practice each day. I had the opportunity to see patients independently, write referrals, perform procedures and assist nursing staff. It was a great learning experience. Got to see the management of many chronic cases and do some procedures.
