AME - Home

About the Academy for Medical Education

The AME takes a whole-of-program approach to the education of Medical School students. This is a highly collaborative endeavour in which the AME works closely with the various stakeholder groups to enable our students including UQ medical graduates, to be well prepared to move on to the next stage of their career.  Our collective aim is to enable graduates to provide excellent healthcare to their patients and/or communities wherever in the world they practice.

The AME:

  • Leads educational research that transforms medical education locally and globally;
  • Supports evidence-informed learning and teaching that involves learners as active agents in their development as professionals;
  • Leads the educational design of the program through the development of a dynamic curriculum;
  • Seeks opportunities to continuously improve the Medical School's coursework programs, including the MD program;
  • Collaborates with educators and learners to develop assessment for learning as well as of learning;
  • Promotes an ethos underpinned by a love of learning, a scholarly approach, and compassion;
  • Supports the development of capability and expertise in medical education and medical education research.

The AME in context

The AME works collaboratively with our clinical schools and disciplines (Mayne Academies, Greater Brisbane Clinical School, Rural Clinical School, Ochsner Clinical School) as well as Schools including the School of Biomedical Sciences and School of Public Health from the Faculty and UQ. These collaborations ensure that student learning is supported in a variety of settings so every student can reach their full potential and have the necessary skills to provide the best care to their future patients and broader community.
