Supporting partners experiencing a traumatic pregnancy and childbirth: Towards holistic care

There is growing recognition of the need for obstetric services to be partner-inclusive. The support and active engagement of partners in the pregnancy journey are known to improve outcomes for mothers, babies, and the entire family unit. Partners are secondary users of maternity services; however, no special provisions have been made for their medical, social, or psychological support. This research aims to strengthen the collective voice of consumers (partners) and communities in health care, innovation and education for health professionals. Developing a consumer-co-designed model of care will ensure that pregnancy services are partner-inclusive, universal, and fair, offering compassionate care that is family-centered and meets their care needs.

If you have a lived experience of being a partner to a person experiencing traumatic pregnancy and childbirth, you are invited to participate in this research project. You do not need specific knowledge about the health system, co-design, or research methods.

People identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse, and gender-diverse groups are particularly encouraged to express their interest – the intention is to create a culturally safe experience for all.

Once you put in an Expression of Interest, a member of the research team will contact you to provide you with further details regarding the study and written consent from you. The study focuses on co-design, so you may be required to participate in focus group sessions, where you will join a group of other partners to discuss your experiences and consider what might help. You may also be invited to engage in face-to-face and online co-design workshops and occasionally may be required to provide feedback via email or phone.

According to the Metro North Health guidelines and procedures, you will be offered an honorarium for your time. Parking and transport costs will also be reimbursed if required.
