Tips from previous students

Placement:

  • There is a Country University Centre in town which provides 24 hour access to a library area and private rooms, you just had to make an appointment to get an access fob. The centre has free wifi and highspeed internet which is great as the accommodation doesn't and it is also a nice study spot. https://www.cucbalonne.edu.au/
  • The key to success in RRM is putting yourself forward for as much as possible.
  • Get in touch with the country university centre for access to their study space.

Community Engagement:

  • Talk to everyone! Say yes to almost everything! Have an open mind! Some people out here may have different values to you but don’t be too quick to judge, everyone I met was extremely welcoming and good hearted.
  • Boating on the river is a must! Seeing all the historic hotels is also highly recommended as well as local shows.

Testimonials

I had fantastic preceptors who were keen on having me involved in doing consults and procedures with them. I also found the medical outreach clinics that they ran to be very interesting and a wonderful experience. Overall my experience here has been quite fantastic.

The preceptors were all very positive helpful inviting teachers and great role models. I can’t imagine a better experience than what I had. Each of them had their own unique energy and perspective to patient care which I will try to emulate and carry forward with me into my own career. The nursing staff and allied health were also happy to include and chat to me whenever I was interested. I felt like I was included into, and apart of the community and what a great community it is! I felt I got a great sense of what it would be like to work rurally and can see myself coming back here in the future.

The entire team was wonderful. Words can't describe how awesome they were.  Always felt welcome. Always someone eager to teach me something every single day. I learnt more in these 6 weeks than I did in the past 2 years. I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to have these preceptors as mentors. Nursing staff were always ready to teach as well. This practice feels like one big family - very positive vibes!
