Grace Boyd

Grace Boyd is a medical student of the University of Queensland set to graduate with a Doctor of Medicine at the end of 2020. Grace’s interest in medical research was instigated during her BSc in 2015, when she completed her first UQ Summer Research Program Scholarship at the UQ Thoracic Research Centre, under the supervision of Professor Kwun Fong, Professor Ian Yang, and PhD Candidate, Ms Eloise Shaw. Here she investigated molecular biomarkers for lung cancer detection. Her research passion was furthered in 2017 under the supervision of Professor Sailesh Kumar, the Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology for the UQ Faculty of Medicine, at the Mater Research Institute. During her time there, Grace worked on determining outcomes for periviable infants depending on mode of delivery, which has resulted in a first-authorship publication that is currently under review. With additional research experience at Envoi Specialist Pathologists, the importance of clinical research for Grace has most certainly been solidified. In 2019 she will be commencing her concurrent MD-MPhil, again under the supervision of Professor Sailesh Kumar, at the Mater Research Institute. Grace’s research here will centre around maternal, obstetric and perinatal outcomes of pregnancies complicated by socio-demographic, medical, surgical or intrapartum risk factors. She is most looking forward to the challenge and hopes her research will positively contribute to the clinical scene
