Michael Hurrell

Michael grew up and completed schooling in Ingham and Townsville in North Queensland. Upon completion of secondary school, he moved to Brisbane and attended St Leo’s College at the University of Queensland. Here he earned the McKenna Prize for highest overall GPA. He completed a Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry with Class 1 honours at the University of Queensland in 2008 before moving to Darwin to practice. In 2011, Michael returned to the University of Queensland to study Medicine. During his medical studies, he continued to practice dentistry, as well as embarking on a part-time PhD at the University of Queensland in conjunction with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Michael completed his MBBS in 2014, and worked for two years at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital as a junior medical officer. In 2016, he accepted a training position in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery through the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is now living and training in Perth with his wife and son, and is expected to complete his PhD with four publications later in the year.
