Wendy has recently retired from her academic position as Associate Professor and Research by Higher Degree Student Co-ordinator, at the Discipline of General Practice, University of Queensland.

Wendy practiced as a Breast Physician at St Vincent's Breast Centre in Toowoomba, and has had a private breastfeeding medicine practice, also in Toowoomba.  She was a Senior Medical Officer for BreastScreen Queensland, and has been in General Practice in Mackay, Perth and Brisbane as well as being a Senior Medical Officer, Family Planning Queensland, Toowoomba.

She has extensive clinical experience with women's health, and has specific expertise with breastfeeding and lactation. Her main research activities relate to the breastfeeding knowledge and skills of health professionals; educating the medical workforce about breastfeeding; community postnatal care of women and their infants and contraception.

Wendy is the immediate Past President of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine and is a member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Australian Association for Academic Primary Care (AAAPC), Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM) and the International Lactation Consultants Association.
