Ben graduated from Emory University (Atlanta GA USA) in 2020 where he received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Psychology. Following his graduation and during his first year of medical school online in 2021, he undertook research training in Biochemistry at Emory University School of Medicine, where he investigated the role of striatin proteins in the tight junctions. After moving to Brisbane in 2022, he joined the lab of Professor Ranjeny Thomas at the Fraser Institute and contributed to the mechanistic studies on the pathogenesis of spondyloarthropathy and rheumatoid arthritis. Combining the conventional immunological techniques with the cutting-edge multi-omics, his PhD project in Immunology hopes to understand how the disruption of gut microbiome relates to psoriatic and IBD arthritis in patients with spondyloarthropathy. His favourite cytokine is currently IL-10.
