Jessica Mills is a rural background MD-PhD student at The University of Queensland, Australian Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN), and Centre for Advanced Imaging (CAI) under the supervision of Dr Nick Fletcher, Associate Professor Barbara Rolfe, and Professor Kris Thurecht.

Prior to starting her PhD, Jessica completed a BBiomedSc Honours (First Class) in Pharmacology from the University of Queensland. This project demonstrated the complex interactions between the immune system and nanomaterials. Her PhD project focuses on pharmacological modulation of the immune system to improve nanomaterial biodistributions.

In addition to nanomaterial research, Jessica’s professional interests include medical education, advocacy for equitable access to preventative medicine, and science communication. In the future, Jess would like to specialise in oncology and improve access to specialist services in rural Queensland.
