Monto Family Practice, located on the grounds of Monto Health Service, aims to provide the highest standard of patient care, whilst incorporating a holistic approach towards diagnosis and management of illness.
Monto Hospital service offerings include emergency services, acute and aged care, general medicine, outpatients and palliative care.
It is a 14 bed community hospital.

About Monto
Monto, one of the most recent towns in the Capricorn region, was settled in 1924. It is the centre of a rich dairy and beef cattle district and is set picturesquely on a plateau surrounded by rolling hills. It is a town dependent on the surrounding agriculture - predominantly mixed farming and timber.

Tips from previous students
- Be proactive about taking bloods/ cannulation in the morning at the hospital and you will be able to.
- Make the most of the placement by trying to fully immerse yourself in the community- go out for dinner, explore the town, talk to locals. You will only get out what you put in!
- Fitting in a few rounds of golf with some of the locals was really fun. I also really enjoyed visiting the several murals that have been put up around town. Hiking at Cania Gorge also a must do out here.
- Cania Gorge camping with friends was fantastic and there was a lot of good hiking in the area.
- Watch out for kangaroos when driving!

My placement experience was fantastic. Both my preceptors were fantastic. The first got be involved during consultations and at the hospital and made me feel very welcome. Special mention has to go to the second who made a conscious effort to make me feel welcome at the start and also provided me with an opportunity to practice skills (incisions and suturing), breaking bad news and doing histories and exams. He provided great feedback, but I never felt I was being judged. My increased willingness to go rural in the future is in large parts due to these preceptors.
