Tips from Previous Students

  • I found the hospital most useful to my learning - the ED allowed for good procedural skills and the ability to assess patients after they have been triaged by the nurses. The ward allowed for practicing of ward skills that will be useful for internship.
  • Visiting the local part of the Great Barrier Reef.
  • There are many social events that take place within the community.

Testimonials

My Preceptor helped make this placement a very worthwhile experience. He constantly went out of his way to find learning opportunities for me even when he had an entire hospital full of patients. He always had time for my questions and really helped make me feel like part of the team.

I was very well looked after and integrated into the medical and nursing teams. I found all staff members very approachable and keen to teach.

My main preceptor has been very helpful and supportive during my time here, and has encouraged me to be confident but also humble in my learning. He is passionate about his work and cares for his patients, as well as makes the time for medical students and teaching.

It was lovely. Good teaching and good practical experience. It was interesting to see the limits of investigations and the weighing of options of risks/benefits of transferring to larger centres for more complete investigation options.
