About Kingaroy

Kingaroy has always been a rich agricultural area and is probably best known as Australia’s peanut and navy bean capital. But since the early 1990s it has also become home to a vigorous wine industry which is already the largest in the State in terms of production. Kingaroy’s population is expected to double over the coming decades as a steadily growing population take advantage of the area’s great rural lifestyle, with its proximity to Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast, and rapidly expanding opportunities.

Close-by attractions include;

  • Brisbane Valley Rail Trail
  • The Peanut Van
  • Mount Wooroolin Lookout
  • Kingaroy Observatory
  • Kingsley Grove Estate Annual Grape Stomp - February
  • Kingaroy Baconfest - August

  • Head to the local bar/pub - meet surprising number of people you actually know; good to get to know people outside of context of medical school
  • Try the local eateries and cafes - stunning variety of food.
  • Go camping at Bunya Mountains but make sure you go before it gets too cold.

Testimonials

Excellent rural GP practice with highly varied and interesting clinical experiences. Extremely knowledgeable staff and preceptors who were welcoming and eager to teach and have you involved. Thoroughly enjoyable and great placement with Kingaroy Ochre Medical Practice!

Both my preceptor and the other main GP were very welcoming, as were all of the practice staff. They were eager to teach and having consistent supervisors was very helpful.

My main preceptor was a great mentor and teacher. He went out of his way to encourage me to learn and get me involved. I was able to experience a wide range of rural medicine including general practice, emergency department, antenatal, anaesthetics, women and children's medicine and surgery. This gave me good insight into what it is like to be a rural generalist and has encouraged me to consider it as a possibility in the future. Every day of my placement was completely different from the one before it.
