MD Program Academic Calendar 2026 - TBA
1. Allocations Overview
The Medical School has established the Clinical Immersion Allocation Process to manage and support the allocation of your clinical immersions throughout your program.
The Clinical Immersion Allocation Processes are designed to facilitate the equitable distribution of students to clinical immersions throughout the Academic Year and across all available Clinical Locations.
1.1 The Dean of the Medical School is responsible for decisions related to clinical immersion allocations. While all reasonable attempts will be made to accommodate student requirements and preferences, this may not always be possible due to operational requirements.
1.2 The Dean, Medical School (or nominee) is responsible for decisions related to the Clinical Location(s) in which a student will undertake their learning. UQ-Ochsner MD Students are advised of the Clinical Location at least one week prior to commencing their clinical immersion term.
1.3 The Medical School will publish the timeframes for the UQ-Ochsner MD Year 3 and 4 Clinical Immersion Allocation processes. It is the student’s responsibility to submit applications/preferences within the required timeframe. Students who do not submit by the relevant deadlines will have their clinical immersion terms allocated automatically. Key dates for 2026 can be found here.
1.4 As outlined in Section 8, students who can demonstrate extenuating circumstances may be afforded special consideration during the UQ-Ochsner MD Year 3 and 4 Clinical Immersion Allocation Processes.
1.5 Following the publication of the provisional immersion term allocations, students will be provided the opportunity to submit a swap request.
- Year 3: Students may request to swap their entire immersion term order.
- Year 4: Students may request to swap their entire immersion term order (including Clinical Extension pathway) or only the Clinical Extension pathway.
1.6 Students must submit requests to the UQ-Ochsner Student Administration as indicated here, and during the designated swap period only. All applications for swaps will be accommodated where possible, however are subject to operational requirements. The Medical School cannot guarantee fulfilment of all swap requests.
1.7 While every attempt will be made to minimise changes to the finalised allocations, it may be necessary for the Medical School to do so to meet operational requirements.
1.8 Decisions related to Clinical Immersion Allocations are administrative in nature. In accordance with the University policy on Student Grievance Resolution, it is only possible to appeal in circumstances where a student can demonstrate that the decision did not comply with the University’s policies, rules or procedures. Personal dissatisfaction is not grounds for an appeal.
1.9 The Clinical Immersion Allocation Process for UQ-Ochsner MD Students is administered by the UQ-Ochsner Student Administration, under the direction of the Dean, Medical School (or nominee).
