Dr Jaya Valvoi

Bio
Jaya has worked for many years as a Lecturer and Course Coordinator for both the Masters of Mental Health Program and at UQ Doctorate of Psychology (Clinical). She is an Endorsed Clinical Psychologist and is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society and the APS College of Clinical Psychologists. She works with children, young adults and their families in Private Practice at the Emotional Health Unit, Mater Young Adult Health Centre, Mater Hospital. In addition to private practice work Jaya has experience providing psychological therapies to children and young adults with mental health issues, in Public Mental Health, Hospital Settings and Schools.
Interests
She is interested in Evidence based interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT) and Mindfulness Based Therapies. Specific CBT adaptations including CBT-Insomnia; CBT for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder; and M-CBT (Mindfulness based CBT). She is also interested in Process Based Psychotherapy and formulation: understanding the biopsychosocial mechanisms that drive psychopathology and implementing treatment interventions that target these processes.
