Regional clinical immersion term accommodation
UQ medical students who are travelling to an approved Clinical Extension (CE) placement in Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay or Toowoomba are eligible for free accommodation for the approved placement dates. Students requiring a room must submit an online application to reserve their accommodation. Applications for 2026 will open on 3 November 2025 and must be submitted by 14 November 2025. Accommodation cannot be guaranteed for late applications.
UQ medical students who are undertaking an approved PLD (or elective) in the regions are also eligible to apply for accommodation. Students who are approved for accommodation will be invoiced a service fee of $200 per week. This is applicable for elective placements and is payable 1 month before your commencement date.
Any spare accommodation capacity will be made available to students undertaking placements in the regions. We will update the website to confirm possible capacity in January 2026.
RCS student private rental subsidies
As we transition to an accommodation model to support a full end-to-end medical program in the regions, our focus is on building a sustainable model that supports students to establish themselves in the local community. We are encouraging students to seek private rentals, supported by rental subsidies to help offset costs. This strategy allows us to prioritise the students in Year 4 who undertake multiple placements away from their primary location. Students will be supported with local housing contacts, a rental reference and can apply for the rental subsidy as below:
Private lease subsidies:
•$3,000 per eligible student
•$6,000 per household for students with dependents
- To be eligible, students must submit a subsidy application and formal documentation confirming rental arrangement for the 2026 academic year (e.g., lease agreement and/or proof of rent payments)
- Eligible students will receive an email with a subsidy application attached. If you have not received this, please email uqrcs.enquiries@uq.edu.au so that we can provide you with this form.
The following students are also eligible for a relocation grant of $2000 (1 per household):–
- DDSW Learning Community students relocating from Brisbane to Toowoomba for Year 2 (2026 only)
- WB Learning Community students relocating from Bundaberg to Hervey Bay for Year 3 in 2026.
Regional clinical immersion term & academic year accommodation
RCS has limited student accommodation to provide students with fully furnished housing. This accommodation is prioritised for MEDI7400 students who may need flexible housing around travel to undertake clinical placements outside of their home Learning Community, or for UQ medical students who are undertaking approved placements in the regions.
UQ medical students in Years 1-3 may apply for any remaining accommodation capacity. Students are encouraged to consider private rentals and accessing support through the private rental subsidy wherever possible.
The RCS owned accomodation that is available is showcased below. Images of rental accommodation are not available in advance.
